Thursday’s Child

I held you in my arms and smiled
My innocent beloved child
And yearned for you the very best
Of life’s unending challenge.

I set my heart on wishful dreams
Knowing you would aim, it seems
For all things wise and wonderful
And all that life could give.

But dreams can’t always be fulfilled
Perchance it was not in His will
That you would strive for worldly things
For you are Thursday’s child.

And Thursday’s child has far to go
Oh, my child, I love you so
I must look up and try to see
The plans He has for you.
